The Lawrence Welk Show: Chicken Dance

Myron Floren’s Offspring 03:13 An unsettling performance of “The Chicken Dance,” performed by dancer and former Mouseketeer Bobby Burgess along with his gawky offspring. Bobby is the son-in-law of the late accordionist Myron Floren, both of whom had been long-time performers on “The Lawrence Welk Show.” Myron himself provides musical accompaniment after introducing the “performance,” which takes location on an eerily barren, dungeon-like stage. This clip has all the classic, premeditated, cornball Welk staginess, minus the talent. Also, every person has that trademark, desperately forced Welk smile. What enjoyable!

This is so wholesome it’s nauseating….but there WAS some really banging stuff on the Welk show. You just have to dig through a lot of guff like this to find it.

@luiscf77 And how about nude sculptures and paintings?

  12. DiceHunt says:

@notredamehesamighty Thanks for stating FACT. Dance is an art. My dad taught dance professionally. Some people just don’t realize that not all forms of art, or particular “pieces of art” are each the type that they prefer. Many would like NUTE paintings and sculptures by world known artists, but more for the nudity than the art. True? Grow up people. “Variety is the spice of life.” “There’s more than one way to skin a cat..”

    we dance it in school

  14. notredamehesamighty says:

Hang on a minute… this corny stuff is as much a part of Americana as anything else. Sure I get embarrassed every time I’ve done it at weddings and such, but dance is an art and there are all sorts of ways of expression. It may not be art I DON’T LIKE, but some folks do. I’m willing to accept this stuff if people can accept things as art that THEY don’t like that I do.
