Yorkshire Television studios

Growing up, I knew two things about Leeds. It was the home of the Leeds Permanent Building Society – I had an account with them.

I also knew it as the home of Yorkshire Television. Even though Leeds was three hours away from where we lived, we got our local news from there (memories of watching Richard Whiteley on ‘Calendar’). Some really well known British TV shows have been recorded within these walls: ‘Emmerdale’, ‘Rising Damp’, ’3-2-1′ and, of course, ‘Countdown’.

Apparently, if you see coaches parked on the small road that run along the side of the studios then it’s ‘Countdown’ recording day and there’ll be scores of little old ladies in town to see that nice Carol and Des.
