The hysterical and stereotypical classic scene about a youth tripping on acid from the late 60s TV version of the show “Dragnet” (1967-1970)…which was revived to address the growing popularity of drugs such as marijuana and LSD among youth. Although well-intentioned, the result was often overexaggerated, naive and one-sided…showing unrealistic effects of these drugs. It has since become a camp classic sometimes compared with the likings of “Reefer Madness” because of its self-righteousness and unintentionally funny situations involving drug use.
Taking the successful radio program to the new medium of television, Dragnet was famous for its use of actual Los Angeles Police Department case files. Jack Webb portrays Sgt. Joe Friday, who works the day shift with his partners on a variety of interesting cases. This program was reincarnated in 1967; eight years after its first television series had ended, with Jack Webb reprising his role of Sgt. Joe Friday.

I have always loved this film starring Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks, so I decided to make another Top 10 video but based on this homage to the popular 50′s TV series. We have had lots of rainy days in Los Angeles in the past month. So, rainy day = no yard work = DVD rentals. I’ve used this down time to watch some shows, that I wouldn’t normally watch, to collect some screen captures. Here is one of those.
Dragnet, the TV show (top), was just one of hundreds of times that the Los Angeles City Hall has been used as a filming location. It’s not possible, obviously, to duplicate the angle of the city hall as seen in the grab because of all the bigger buildings that currently surround it.
Originally about healthcare, this video is now dedicated to Jack Webb, who wanted each show to contain at least one strong speech that would attempt to set the moral compass of the country right. These speeches need to be heard by a new generation.
