Thank you very much for your comment. I remember watching a video in which your father was accompanying another artist (was it part of the “America’s Music series?) and I couldn’t help notice his virtuoso playing. Let me also be fair to John Davidson. Among the many people who aspire to make a career as an entertainer, was was able to do it successfully. That counts for a lot.

Pop always tried to encourage others to be the best and gave his time and energy without reservation. Many from the 70′s got his kindness. Check out Jim Turner for one of the shining examples.

Johnny Guarnieri of the famous family? Why would he waste his time with Davidson?

  7. spagandtuna says:

One of the all time mistakes was the Group W decision to dump Mike Douglas in favor of this guy in order to try to attract a “younger audience.” What, younger type writer repairmen wearing plaid leisure suits? What were they thinking? This guy was so empty-headed and had local community theater level talent at best even if he was well intentioned.

    yep

I hope he has changed since the early 80′s. My dad Johnny Guarnieri coached him then and wrote his music arrangements to refine in voice. When it came to going on tour he dismissed my father by saying your image is old and I want younger people. My dad was in his 40′s . He needed a lot of growing up. My father has a amazing legacy and he will be remembered long after John Davidson is forgotten.

John Davidson was GREAT on Hollywood Squares, IMO. He used to come up with some outrageous answer and then he would say, “Trust me on this one,” with that puppy dog face and they would say, “ok, I will” and then the emcee guy (can’t remember his name) would say, “no, he’s lying…” It was really funny and only he could’ve pulled it off like that. He was just the kind of entertainer that was wholesome and fun and he actually had a really great singing voice.

Some of my fellow game show fans, for some reason, somehow thought John sucked on Hollywood Squares. From what I saw, John did well.

John, you were my favorite always! On my 20th. birthday I saw you at the Mill Run Theatre in Niles, Illinois. That was on Sept. 23rd, 1978. If you see this, I was the one waiting for your kiss as the stage turned in circles, and my mom at that time got your kiss and she grabbed you for one more and the audience roared, it was great, but I finally got you after she did, haha! It was a great night to remember, thanks for the memories! I think my dad got a bigger kick out of that night too!

he was in Kansas City this past Monday night and threw out the first pitch and then sang take me out to the ball game for the 7th inning stretch…and he was actually pretty good at it.

I remember John Davidson very well. He was such a personable, kind-hearted kind of entertainer and I always enjoyed him. I loved when he would go into a crowd and sing songs from various couples’ dating eras. He seemed like a great guy and I wish he would come back on t.v. It sounds like he’s very happy…I wish him the best.
