I’m With COCO Movement Grows on Facebook

As all of you are probably aware, Conan O’Brien, the now former host of The Tonight Show, gave up his much earned seat of hosting the iconic television show on January 22, 2010 after only seven months on the air following NBC gave him an ultimatum: leave the last place network or move the long held 11:35 program to 12:05am, essentially bumping it into the next day to give Jay Leno his own half hour show in that time slot.

The move sparked an outcry from Conan fans everywhere that led viral movement to support the late night comedian. Mike Mitchell, an artist and a long time Conan O’Brien fan, is responsible for producing the now iconic “I’m With COCO” image circulating the internet and gaining attention from major media outlets throughout the country. The picture was originally supposed to be a piece of propaganda similar to Barack Obama’s “Hope” version throughout the 2008 presidential election. Even so, soon after posting it on Twitter 1 night it became an overnight sensation amongst fans all over the world and popped up on Twitter and Facebook profiles everywhere. It has also led to the growing I’m With COCO Facebook page also formed by Mitchell where in much less than a month the group has overwhelmingly reached nearly a million fans. The site has become the center-piece for the movement, becoming much more than you’re average fan page on the well-liked social networking site. Events previously posted included rallies that had been held in New York, Seattle, Chicago, and outside of The Tonight Show studio at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. Merchandise is also available such as t-shirts, posters, wristbands, and stickers.

Given that Conan is prohibited from creating public appearances until April and is forbidden from hosting another show until September, his army of  loyal fans have continued to come up with creative plans with the goal to maintain momentum moving until his return to tv in September and refusing to rest until he is #1 in the late night ratings war.
