I met Fred Foy when he came to the Cincinnati Old Time Radio convention in 1997. I found him sitting in the rehearsal hall, going over his script for the broadcast. As I approached him, I suddenly became 8 years old. I wanted his autograph but didn’t want to disturb him. He greeted me with a smile and listened pleasantly to my memories of hearing him on the radio. His voice was the radar detector to help me find the right station. Once I heard him, I knew I was on the right spot.
Hislittlenell~What a wonderful way to remember your Dad. I grew up with the Lone Ranger and that vocal introduction, 1st on radio then TV. So sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.
I worked with Fred in Mass on Radio Recreations…He was a regular guy …friendly…a Pleasure to be with So sorry for his loss …Beautiful Voice..!! George F WCVB Vet in Boston
I can close my eyes are and and see our black and white tv on the telecast of the this fanastic show….God they don’t make them like that anymore (too bad)! Mr Foy may you rest in peace!
Two bits of interesting “Lone Ranger” trivia:
1. The series was recorded here in Detroit, at Special Recordings, Inc. on Grand Blvd. & Woodward Ave.
2. “Keemosabe” translated loosely means “wise one”, and “Tonto” in Spanish means “Stupid”.
I grew up with this guy saying “A fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a hearty ‘Hi-yo Silver” and I remember it well.
Them were the good old days.
